Summary: The purpose of writing this book was to provide primary resource material on Environmental Law to the students taking professional courses in Law and appraise the legal fraternity of the developments that have taken in this significant branch of law. Encouraged by the favourable response from the stakeholders for the earlier two editions of the book, the author has brought out this third revised edition in its enlarged form. The environmental law comprises a host of special statutory enactments regulating and controlling water, air, noise and land pollution which has deleterious effect on human lives and other living organisms including plants, vegetable and flora-fauna. These various laws have been succinctly dealt with in separate chapters along with the statutory legal provisions and relevant case law handed down by the higher courts on various aspects of environment. The preventive strategies with focus on sustainable development along with the national environmental policies have also been elaborately discussed and analysed. More importantly, the various rules relating to different aspects of environmental protection and control have also been precisely incorporated in the book The environmental litigation in India has developed leaps and bounds through PIL petitions and the environmental activities are leaving no opportunity to bring the breaches and violations of the environmental law before the court for relief and restitution.
